Our Story

After returning from WWII, where he served as a surgeon in the US Army, Dr. Malcom McNatt along with his wife Anita answered their calling to tend to God’s land and raise cattle. They purchased the land where the ranch still stands near Marshall, Texas in the 1950s and began raising registered Santa Gertrudis. As the years went on the ranch slowly took its shape and though the breed of cattle changed the passion for ranching and tending to the land did not. In the 1970s Dr. Malcom McNatt’s son Jim McNatt took over the ranch and along with his wife Laurie and their two sons, they grew the ranch into the place it is today.
If three generations of ranching over the past 70 years have taught us anything it's that if something isn't broken, you don't fix it. God made cattle to roam pastures and eat grass, so that is what we’ve let our cattle do. For the last 40 years, we have been cultivating the highest quality grass-fed and grass-finished beef for our use not because it was fashionable but because that is just the good old-fashioned way to raise cattle. This has made it exciting to see over the past several years the interest and demand for grass-fed and grass-finished beef growing so rapidly.
Unfortunately, the ability of ranchers/farmers to sell directly to consumers has been hampered by access to USDA-inspected processing facilities. This has been largely due to the largest international meat packing corporations and their control over the market. But as the many years through the ups and downs of the cattle market have taught us, never underestimate the determination of a rancher/farmer. Thanks to the rapid growth of the farm-to-table and knowing your rancher/farmer movements, ranchers and farmers with the help of consumers have forced their way back into the market. The rise of small USDA-inspected processing facilities that directly serve the local ranchers and farmers has given new life and opportunity for ranchers and consumers alike.
Within this backdrop, we saw an opportunity to share our decades of experience raising grass-fed and grass-finished beef directly with consumers. With farm-to-table, and knowing your rancher/farmer movements continuing to grow, consumers can once again have trust in the food they buy, when they can buy it from a neighbor who raised it. We started Hynson Springs M Ranch to be that neighbor for those in our local communities who are yearning for honest grass-fed and grass-finished beef they can trust. We also have an equally important reason calling us to start Hynson Springs M Ranch. It gives the next generation and beyond an opportunity to carry the ranch forward and keep the good old-fashioned way of life alive.
